The Need For Television Ratings Data Transparency from Streamers
Excellent article today from The Ankler insightfully analyzing one of the most pressing issues facing the industry today.
Unfortunately, the proprietary nature of that data means the WGA is hesitant to make it a negotiating point (so far). perhaps they worry the streamers will never release that data and thus it becomes a losing point in the negotiation.
This article does a good job of explaining why data transparency is ultimately good for everyone, even if it means tougher contract negotiations with individual talent/series participants. That’s still better than facing the threat of a strike every six to ten years. Hard to do good work if no one knows how the work they’re doing is being received by the audience.
As for the point that everything old is new again, fully agree. Just wait until we get to syndication deals after streamers start carving out licensing windows in the series they own outright.
