The Score by Richard Stark Richard Stark is the pen name of the prolific Donald E. Westlake, whose contributions to the canon of literary tough guys and hard-boiled crime are extensive and excellent. His most famous criminal character is "Parker," a professional robber specializing in big heists with big scores. Parker is the main character in 24 out of 28 Richard Stark novels. First appearing in "The Hunter," he has been portrayed on screen by tough-guy actors like Lee Marvin, Jim Brown, Mel Gibson, and Jason Statham. Stark/Westlake described the writing, like Parker himself, as "fast and mean...crisp and lean, no fat, trimmed down."
